Lockdown has been tough for many people – but there have also been moments of shining goodness: the walk by Captain Tom Moore is emblematic of thousands of small and large feats to raise money for charity; there have also been tremendous acts of wonderful kindness, especially for the elderly and isolated; cakes baked for whole streets; hand-crafted cards made and sent to neighbours; PPE face masks and visors made in school tech rooms.
In today’s Youth Mass we will celebrate good news. It is the feast of St Augustine of Canterbury, a Benedictine who brought Christian faith to large parts of Southern England. Benedictines show us the particular value of silence and contemplation – has that, too, been a fruit of lockdown? Could it be?
As ever the Youth Mass includes music recorded by musicians from across the Diocese, including some young choirs, and it is accessible via either Instagram Livestream or YouTube – simply find BrentwoodCYS.
