Today’s Gospel includes some of the most soothing and healing lines in the whole of the Bible. Jesus invites us, “Come to me all you who labour and are overburdened and I will give you rest.”

Undoubtedly these are words we all need to hear in this time of Coronavirus.

Even as lockdown eases, many fragilities remain; those who grieve, those who are carrying great stress, those who are anxious about school, or work, or the future. To all of us who are feeling like that, Jesus says, “Come to me all you who labour and are overburdened and I will give you rest.” And also Jesus sends us people who ease the burdens, and help carry the load with us – many of you are doing that, in all sorts of ways.

As ever, bring it all to Mass – the places where you need the healing and easing of burdens which Jesus offers, and the people for whom you are offering that very same healing and compassion, in the name of Jesus.
