Day 1 – Virtual Pilgrimage 2017

25th July 2017

Today was the official start for the 2017 Brentwood Diocese Centenary pilgrimage to Lourdes. Our final pilgrims arrived and we had a Mass celebrated by Bishop Alan with a homily from Fr Stephen Myers (Parish Priest of Holy Family, Dagenham).

Below we have the Homily preached by Fr Stephen from the opening Mass:

The theme of Lourdes 2017 for all pilgrims who visit is an extract from Our Lady’s prayer ‘The Magnificat’:

“The Almighty has done great things for me”

To help us unpack this theme we have a brief explanation from the main Pilgrimage coordinator Fr Paul Keane (Vice-Rector of Oscott Seminary):

The Theme of Lourdes 2017

After long journeys and many sacrifices to get us to this point we officially begin our Centenary Pilgrimage. Today has been our first full day, full of profound moments of encounter and many blessings already. Fr Paul Keane gives us a summary of our first full day which has included a tour of Lourdes and a Torchlight procession led by Brentwood:
