Every Easter over 1,000 disabled and disadvantaged children travel to Lourdes with HCPT and enjoy a life changing pilgrimage holiday.

If you are over 18 you can travel as a helper with The Brentwood Group (709). We are a Central Service Group on the HCPT pilgrimage, this means we work hard all week to enable the children to have the very best experience.

It is also an excellent experience for you – working directly with children and young adults who have a wide variety of additional needs, and from whom you will learn and receive at least as much as you give! It is very different from Summer – the Brentwood group are all 18+, so there is more freedom in social time, but there is also a lot of hard work; as well as the direct work with those travelling, you will also help to marshal processions and other “behind the scenes” roles which keep the whole pilgrimage ticking along. The most profound part of the week is the opportunity to serve in the baths, welcoming pilgrims and helping them in that most prayerful and vital moment.

The week is vibrant, joyful, and will show you a whole new way of what it means to live your Catholic faith in amazing service and in a wonderful atmosphere. The scale of the pilgrimage alone is exceptional – next year there will be an estimated 5,000 people on the HCPT pilgrimage, including some from the West Indies, America, and many other countries as well as thousands from England.

The pilgrimage takes place in the week after Easter – travel on Easter Sunday (next year, 12th April), probably quite early in the morning, and return the following Saturday, 18th April, probably in the late evening. The current estimated cost for this is around £500.

Forms are now available for HCPT Easter Lourdes; you may already know a lot about HCPT, in which case – if you would like to come in 2020 – simply request the forms and email Luke Syms, the Group Leader, about where to send them, how to pay, etc (Group709@hcpt.org.uk). The likely cost will be about £500 depending on how quickly you book flights (Luke will advise you about which flights to book) and subject to final costings from HCPT. If you are a new helper you need to fill in both forms.

If you don’t know much about HCPT then their website is www.hcpt.org.uk or if you have any other questions you can email Luke at group709@hcpt.org.uk. Luke has regularly travelled at summer with the BCYS, and at Easter, and he will help you in any way possible
